Grants Help Preserve Northern Gold Coast Wartime History

Northern Gold Coast community groups and organisations committed to preserving Australia’s wartime heritage will share in more than $1 million in funding through the Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program.

Federal Member for Fadden, Stuart Robert, said the funding would ensure the people of the northern Gold Coast continued to remember and understand the sacrifice made by Australian service men and women during wartime, particularly the next generation.

“This round of grants sawfunding provided to the Northern Gold Coast RSL Sub-Branch to install additional plaques to commemorate Australian Service Personnel at the Helensvale Remembrance Park,” Stuart Robert said.

“The Gold Coast has a proud military history and I congratulate the North Gold Coast RSL Sub-Branch for their work in honouring those who have served our country in the Navy, Army and Air Force.”

This year has been challenging for the local community with the impacts of coronavirus being felt across the region, and of course these impacts may present new challenges for grant recipients.

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs is working with impacted grant recipients to ensure that they can go ahead with their project, such as getting an extension or looking into alternative options.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester saidthe recipients of this round of grant funding were making a vital contribution to preserving our military history and bringing the community together through projects and activities that commemorate our service personnel.

“Community-led commemorative projects play a very important part in helping Australians learn about the crucial role of our service personnel and recognising their courage and sacrifice in serving our nation,” Mr Chester said.

“These grants will assist local communities, from funding restoration work and flagpole installations, to supporting theatre performances and online commemorative websites, which are just some of the projects receiving support this round.”
